Quick Bites💡:

World Trade⚖️: Most of the tariffs the US slapped on trading partners have officially been ruled illegal by the federal court.

Trump’s administration had tried to justify tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA)– which, fun fact, is meant for actual emergencies, not just “I woke up and chose trade war.”

India, which got slapped with a 50% tariff, is probably popping ladoos in celebration right now.

Meanwhile, China is likely sitting in a conference room somewhere doing the math on whether this court ruling gives them leverage to push for concessions in ongoing trade talks.

Over in Europe, the EU’s carefully negotiated deal- already a political headache back home suddenly looks shakier.

Imagine spending months trying to sell a deal to your parliament and then finding out the foundation might not even be legal. Yikes. 😧

Japan and South Korea? Both apparently made mostly oral agreements with the US, so don’t be surprised if they hit the brakes and “slow walk” current efforts.

Why rush, when legal clarity in America is about as stable as a Jenga tower at this point lmao

Still, both Tokyo and Seoul will keep pressing for their holy grail: lower auto tariffs.

What this means now:

-The decision doesn’t pull the rug out immediately. Current tariffs are staying in place until mid-October, giving the White House time to appeal.

-If the Supreme Court takes this up, the ruling could reshape presidential power when it comes to economic policy.

-For consumers, it could impact prices down the line- because tariffs = taxes in disguise… Yep

Luxury💎: Diamonds are back in demand as retailers had quite the week. Two major events dropped back-to-back:

1.Taylor Swift’s viral engagement ring reveal

2.The US slapping a 50% tariff on India– one of the world’s biggest gem exporters

As soon as Taylor debuted her old mine cutvintage sparkler, markets shot up.

Shares of Brilliant Earth skyrocketed 26%, while Signet Jewelers climbed nearly 3% in a single day, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Online searches for her ring surged nearly 10,000% overnight.. Not us typeing ‘vintage diamond ring’ 47 times into Google at 3 am🫢

However, just as jewellers began to relief, the US dropped a 50% tariff hike on India.

India is basically the Costco of diamonds– cutting, polishing, and exporting a massive share of the world’s supply.

Investors are betting on the so-called “Swiftonomics” effect– the idea that Taylor’s influence can single-handedly reignite consumer demand.

If she can boost Eras Tour ticket sales, NFL ratings, and Kansas City Chiefs jersey sales, why not diamonds?

Our bet is on Swift guys.. Whether you like it or not, she is a GLOBAL phenomenon.

Drinking🍷: Gen Z that want the high but not the hangover are fueling a non-alcohlic spirits boom, Bloomberg reports.

Can’t get a hangover if you never sober up folks

From booze-free brews to adaptogenic zero-proof cocktails, there is a rapidly growing “sober-curious” trend among the upcoming generation.

Umm all of our neighbors took their babies to the pumpkin patch with their husbands today as September began. Meanwhile, we just ripped a tequila shot got bamboozled and texted everyone on our contact list

Tbh MAYBE Gen Z isn’t having the right brands??? Casamigos is LIT. U wake up with no hangover no headache. Just full memory loss. Bc u can’t regret what u can’t remember right?

That’s GOD’s work right there

Key Highlights, reported by Business Insider:

-65% of Gen Zers are already drinking less in 2025

-39% said they planned to adopt a dry lifestyle not just during January, but during all of 2025

-While Boomers, Gen X, and Millennials spent between $23 to $25 billion on alcohol in 2023, Gen Z’s spending amounted to just $3 billion

-This is because of an increased awareness of the dangers of alcohol and the rise of health-consciousness as a lifestyle

-Infact, many say that mental health is as significant as their physical health when considering drinking

Gen Z is excited to hang out and see each other– but not necessarily over an alcoholic drink. That’s a BIG opportunity for some businesses.

“I think people in my generation are more conscious of their health and don’t see drinking as a social obligation”

The hashtag #mocktails had over 1 billion views on TikTok last year. The sector is expected to grow to $30 billion in 2026, according to Global Market Insights.

AI 🤖 : OpenAI eyes huge Indian expansion.

OpenAI is planning to build a 1 GW data center in India as part of its global “Stargate” infrastructure push, Bloomberg reports.

The project is worth up to $500 billion, co‑funded by OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, MGX, and others.

Why India? 🇮🇳

-India is ChatGPT’s 2nd-largest market– users have quadrupled in the past year alone

-OpenAI is already deep in the game: they’ve formally registered in India, are launching a New Delhi office

-Building locally also checks the data privacy box under India’s new Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and supports ‘AI Made in India’

To put this into numbers: building a single 1 GW AI complex could cost $50 billionaround $35 billion for Nvidia servers and another $15 billion for everything else.

OpenAI is planning multiple such sites globally (like Abu Dhabi, US, Norway etc).

Stargate was officially announced January 2025 by Donald Trump at the White House, labeled by him as “the largest AI infrastructure project in history”.

💡 Why This Matters for India

-India’s AI sector is booming- estimated at $8 billion by 2025, growing 40% per year

-Expectations to reach $17 billion by 2027

-With initiatives like OpenAI Academy, API grants, workshops in multiple Indian languages, and startup support, OpenAI is planting serious roots here

-Building a 1 GW facility here would be among the largest AI data centers in the country. This could unlock major economic and tech spillovers, not to mention jobs and innovation hubs.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman may announcefurther India details during his visit later this month- possibly including location, timeline, and local partners
